Are you 10 minutes late to everything?

Are you 10 minutes to everything? Here's a concept that may help. It's called backwards planning.

For example, let's say I am going to an event that starts at 5:30.

  • It’s a 15 minute drive to the venue from house, so now my "start" time is 5:15.

  • How long do I think it will take me to park and walk into the building from the parking lot? Probably 10 minutes, so now I'm at 5:05.

  • I want to shower, blowdry my hair, and dress. That usually takes me an hour, so now I'm at 4:05.

  • I'm going to add in 10 minutes for anything unexpected that pops up. I'm at 3:55 now.

  • So I will get in the shower at 3:55 and leave my house by 5:05.

  • And now I set a timer on my phone that reminds me to get in the shower at 3:55. If you need them, you can set additional timers for the steps along the way, if you tend to lose time in the shower, for example.
